Dental Assistance

Many of the clients of heath In Partnership (HP) are in need of dental assistance. Some of them cannot pay money, many are on Medicaid, and some on Medicare. The following is a list of dentists in the Charlotte area who take Medicaid patients for dental work. Other information is also provided:

A state-operated managed care program that will give children a “medical home''
The Medicaid organization is called Carolinas Access in Mecklenburg County
Links children with a primary care doctor who can provide health care or make a referral
Increases access to medical care so that children don't have to go to the ER except for emergencies
Children can continue to go to the Hea1th Dept., dentists, Mental Health Dept. or get family planning services without a referral
Doctors can make a referral to any specialist who accepts Medicaid
A referral is needed for a specialist
There are no differences in the ties of services covered from Medicaid fee for service and CA

· A retired dental surgeon, Dr. Joe Porter, screens each client and refers him/her to the proper clinic at CPCC for dental service

· Screening process includes screening out anyone who needs to be referred elsewhere
