TRANSITIONAL  HOUSING

 

Women in Transition Program: For single women (no children), ages 18 and up, with a regular source of income. Rent is apex. $70 to $86 weekly plus program fees for the just two weeks. Services offered include affordable housing, case management, resource library, and health services. An agency representative must apply for you.

 

Salvation Army Transitional housing Program: For women and men with children. Must be age 18 or up and able to become self-sufficient. You will need an agency representative to refer you to this program.

 

Jackson Park Ministries: For women with children or married couples with children. Coned Willie McNeal at 704-392- 498 1 to apply.

 

 

PROGRAMS FOR HOMELESS PERSONS

 

Homeless Support Services - 704-343-3790 x12 (located it A Child's Place). Contact Terry Tiamd (xl2) regarding a Homeless Support Services assessment. This program is a portal of entry into the network of homeless services in Charlotte. Basic eligibility - You must be homeless or at great risk of hopelessness. Homeless is defined as living in a car or other places not designated for human habitation, doubled-up with another family due to loss of your own housing, staying in an emergency shelter, or fleeing domestic violence, and without other housing resources.

 

Community Link - 500 spray St, 704-334-7288. Administers the Family Resettlement program for newcomers and Traveler's Aid for persons in the county less thank 90 days.

 

Center For Urban Ministries - Old Tryon Station, 945 N. College St, 704-347-0278. Provides assistance with lunch, counseling, mail services, laundry facilities, showers and bathrooms, and other services 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES

 

Applications for all programs can be made at the Mecklenburg County Department of Social services, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at 301 Billingsley Rd, Charlotte, N. C.

 

Economic services: 704-353-1500 Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)/Work First assists families with employment services, Medicaid, financial assistance, and food stamps. To qualify, you must be the parent/legal guardian and caregiver for a child under the age of 18. Families must meet income, citizenship, and resource rules to qualify.

 

The Food Stamp program helps low-income families or individuals buy food. Must meet income, citizenship, and work rules to be eligible.

 

Services for Adults: 704-336-4812 SFA provides quality services for older and disabled adults through programs such as Medicaid, Senior Nutrition, transportation, and other programs.

 

Client Representative: 704-353-0605 Provides assistance to customers who are having problems accessing services, need someone to advocate for them, have complaints about DSS services, or need information about available services at DSS or in the community.
