on the first floor at DSS, the Employment Resource Center, can help with job opportunities and leads, Job Search counseling, help with interviewing skills, and help with creating a resume'. Job Link: Provides specialized case management services; resource center; Internet capable computers with job assistance software packages; fax machines; copy machines; phone and answering service; printed resource information and job listing. Classes on resume writing and interviewing skills. Job coaches and career exploration workshops available. Access to multiple programs such as Employment Security Commission, Dislocated Worker TAA.

Disabled/Disadvantaged

Career Development Services - Goodwill Industries: Operates programs to help people who have a disabling (physical or mental) or disadvantaging condition (TANF, Voc. Rehab.

Visually Impaired

 

Lions Services: Provides services to the visually impaired such as: Supported Employment which places visually impaired people in a job with a coach to assist them. Vocational Rehabilitation for the visually impaired, including a computer training program and job placement. Services for the Blind: Services include vocational assessment, Vocational Rehabilitation', job placement', homebound employment', supported employment, and independent living services, for people with low vision/blind needs. 500 W. Trade St., Ste. 347; 704-342-6185

 

Senior Citizens

 

Youth Council: Operates a Senior Citizen (55 and older) employment program for Mecklenburg County. 610 Baldwin are.; 704-954-0045

 

Senior Center: Has three different programs to help seniors (55 or older) find full or part-time work. 2225 Tyvola Rd.; 704-522-6222

 

Other

 

Urban League: Prepares individuals for work and increases economic self-sufficiency. Key services include referral for GED, job placement, work ethic training, computer literacy, life skills, basic skills literacy, self-esteem building and restoring. Call 373-2256.

 

Even Start: For parents who would like to work on their high school diploma (GED), improve parenting and basic skills, and learn more about employment skills.
